I am Renata Menezes Alves, a single Brazilian woman who came to China in order to experience a new culture while making money wishing a better life.

I’ve been living in Dalian since December of 2019 and facing the challenges of being a foreigner in China during CoronaVirus Outbreak. Although I had some hard times alone at home; being in touch (virtually) with my colleagues from school, the students and their parents made me stronger to pursue with my dream of living here and not give up (as many foreigners did).

With this entire situation I could see how friendly Chinese people are and how safe I was (and still am) living here with this pandemic problem worldwide.

I am a teacher who worries about the social influence of the new language (English) in the people`s lives daily: their goals or interests; who considers the cultural and social diversity as a base to start teaching, especially because the language is a social practice and should be learned in a contextual environment. I am also a professional who provides the students autonomy to create, build and become critical persons using the new idiom as well; and a professional who understands the importance of having a dialogue with the other teachers and the other fields (in case of working in a regular school) in order to have alignment with the contents to be taught.

As a teacher is always learning according to the different students and profiles s/he faces in her/his career, I also consider myself a Learner who is open to explore new areas, subjects, themes or contents aiming to bring the best knowledge to my students.
